Christian and Vollentine Win Corpus Cup Event Location: Corpus Christi, Tx. | Event Date: April 23-24, 2010
Day 1 Day 2 Final Results Paybacks Photos
One only has to look at the results page to realize there were some top Texas anglers in the event this past weekend, as one angler stated, you may not have the big numbers on turnout for this event but you have some awfully big sticks fishing it. The evidence of that was made crystal clear.
After 2 days of intense competition the team of David Christian and Forrest Vollentine prevailed and did so by approximately 1.5 pounds. This team's 2 day total of 34.49 was good enough for the first place check of $10,000.00 and possibly some bonus incentive money from one or more of their many sponsors.
This was a great event, we'll know what to expect next time and be a bit more prepared for the ample opportunities you give the anglers to promote their sponsors and interact with the crowd, stated Christian.
Second place went to the team of Ryan Sweezy and Ray Malone. This team weighed in 32.63 pounds and felt they left more than the needed 1.86 pounds on the water but were very complimentary of the job first place and the rest of the teams did during the competition.
After leading on day 1, Steckler and Lloyd finished up in 3rd place with 31.65 pounds and equipted themselves well with this field of top anglers from the area. The top 5 finished out with the team of Harris and Survant in 4th while 5th was captured by the father and son team of Jay and JayRay Watkins when they weighed in the final 30 pound plus limit with 30.76 pounds.
This was a great weekend and made better by so many that we want to take the remaining space to thank just a few of them. Thank you to all the anglers who gave us a shot this past weekend in Corpus Christi, Tx. you did everything asked of you, never complained and never acted as if the "show" and its' requirements put you out at all.
Thank you to the staff of the www.texasinternationalboatshow.com, what a tremendous event you put together. Thank you to Cajun Phil Broussard and David West for filming and producing the event for TV. Thank you to Justin Collison for bumping fish and helping drive the rig out to Tx and back to Fl.. Thank you to Kristi Pena for taking great pics for the tour. Thank you to the Corpus Christi police department for your escorts of the anglers both days of competition and thank you to our great tour sponsors for helping make this event a success.
Finally, a big Texas thank you to Barbara Scopelitus, without whom, this event would not of been anything close to what it was. Barbara jumped in from the first day we rolled in town and did everything from checking in anglers and fish, to lining up the caravan of boats to make ready for the police escort. She shot some pics as well, made sure anglers had a snack at captain's meeting and much, much more. Barbara definitely gets the top prize for effort at this event and while everyone did a fantastic job and put forth so much effort, we felt she deserved just a few lines of her own "ink" to let everyone know how much she did and how much we appreciated it. Now it's off to Lake Charles to prefish for Barbara as she competes in the HT Cup central division.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next western division event of the HT Cup, Port Lavaca, May 28-29. This event looks to be another Headturning event produced by the anglers, tour, chamber and great fans sure to be on site. For more information on this and other events contact our offices at 321 217 3515. Until then we want to, again, thank everyone who came out and competed, lent a hand of help or showed up to cheer on the anglers of the 2010 HT Cup Professional Redfish Series.

Day 1: Ok a sufficient amount of "breath" has now been taken from non stop TV and Radio interviews over the past day and a half, now I can let the readers know what is happening out here at the 4th annual Texas International Boat Show and HT Cup professional redfish series.
Jeff Steckler and Jimmy Lloyd lead after day 1 with 17.19 pounds of big Texas redfish. Right behind them is the team of David Christian and Forrest Valentine with 17.09. This should make for a very close finish between these two teams who are evidently on the same or similar schools of fish.
Third place and not to be overlooked is Ryan Sweezy and Ray Malone, this team can flat catch em and has 16.09 pounds, well within striking distance. The top 5 finishes out with the team of David Harris and Corey Survant in 4th with 16.01 pounds and Fred Lynch and Jeff Clarkson in 5th with 15.24.
The anglers launched at safe light at Bluff's Landing, returning to check in and have their fish declared at 2:30 pm. At 3:00 they began their police escorted track to the boat show down town Corpus Christi and re launch their boats at the CC Marina L head. Idling over to the weigh in location they arrived to big crowds, media, family and friends to watch them weigh in. This caravan is awesome, you should see all these wrapped trucks and boats traveling along the shoreline with the police escort, this is great, stated LMC Boats pro, David Christian when he called in to express his pleasure with the procedures.
